Theater performance: where do Saïdjah and Adinda live?

Theater De Vaillant presents during The Hague Freedom Weeks, Where live Saïdjah and Adinda, a poignant performance in which past and present come together poignantly.
The story
In a Randstad classroom, students struggle with the question, "Why do we have to learn this?" What begins as an ordinary history lesson turns into an emotional journey through time and identity. The teacher introduces them to the story of Saïdjah and Adinda, the heartbreaking love story from Max Havelaar. As the tragedy of the former Dutch East Indies unfolds, students are confronted with painful histories that still resonate in the present.
A performance with impact
The line between then and now blurs as the young people share their own stories of loss, resilience and hope. The performance challenges the audience to think about how the past affects our society and asks the confrontational question, “Why do we repeat history every time?”
With Gilliam, Annick, Noortje, Deniz, Tayyip, Kai, Prosper and Jayvhen. Directed and written by Joey von Grumbkow.
